Crazy “Diet” Fads

Most of you probably have heard of “Diets” such as High Protein, Low-Carb, Atkins, Sugar-Free, Ketogenic, and Juicing. With most of these “Diets” that I mentioned you restrict calories significantly. As It turns out there are whole lot more “Diet” fads out there. Most of these “Diet” fads out there claim to lose 10 pounds In 10 days and lose Inches and Body fat while you sleep. Lets be honest these “claims” are all bogus. When you see someone In these Tv commercials that are promoting weight loss pills do you really think those pills Is what made that person lose weight? The Answer Is NO! What these companies do Is they hire already Fit actors and they make the actors gain weight. So when you look at the before It’s the actors after they gain weight and the after picture was taken before they gained weight does this make sense?

I know what you are probably thinking what does this have to do with the title? Well upon some research I found some crazy “Diet” fads that people actually follow. I’m going to talk about some that really stood out to me In today’s post.

Cabbage Soup

The first bizarre “Diet” actually Isn’t that bizarre and It has been around for years. The Cabbage Soup “diet” requires people to “drink” cabbage soup for 7 days. You are allowed to mix other things to eat you are REQUIRED to follow a schedule and you must have 2 bowls of cabbage soup every day for 7 days. People use this to lose some quick weight. Yes, you will lose weight fast because you are restricted to 900-1,000 calories a day for 7 days.

Once your 7 days are up you are 100% going to gain the weight you lost back because you are probably going to go back to a semi-normal eating pattern. Even If you use this to jump start your weight loss and you add healthy fruits and vegetables weight gain will happen no matter what. The only way you won’t gain any weight back Is If you stick within the 900-1,000 calories a day “Diet” for long-term health Is not healthy.

My Opinion: SKIP THIS CABBAGE SOUP FAD!

Baby Food

Yes, this Is a thing… It Is a real THING! People who follow this fad are required to down 14 jars of baby food a day with just 1 adult meal for dinner. Some big-name celebrities have dabbled In this fad. I can’t bring myself to do this If you told me that I’ll lose 30 pounds overnight ( YOU DON’T) but still.

If you didn’t know baby food Is processed and strained. Which Is absolutely essential for a good digestive system. The very act of slowly chewing food also helps you feel full, something you’re missing out on when forcing down this bland puree. The “Diet” may not even promote weight loss or maintenance. After all, not all baby foods are low calorie, and the quality of the evening meal will also play a role in the outcome.

my Opinion: SKIP THE BABY FOOD FAD! Provided little to none health benefits for adults. 

Magnetic

The Magnetic “Diet” claims It can Invite great food Into your life with the laws of attraction but It’s basically just guidelines for healthy living, wrapped up In some new-age millennial verse

The creator of the “Diet”, Nick Smith, claims to understand which foods attract health and disease Into the body. He advises “Dieters” to only eat Invigorating magnetism foods’such as fruits, whole grains, vegetables, lean meat, and antioxidant-rich sources. The contaminating magnetism foods, which should be avoided, Include refined sugar, white flour, and foods high in cholesterol. He also advocates watching your calories, exercising, and meditating.

My Opinion: NOT surprising people lose weight, but not for the reasons this diet claims. SKIP IT!

Eat Cotton Balls For Hunger

The Cotton Ball “Diet” has to be one of the strangest things I researched. There Is no definite era when this “Diet” came around. With some research, I could guess that It started with models. With this fad you don’t just eat cotton balls plain you dip cotton balls Into a liquid like orange juice or lemon juice when you feel hunger pains. Duh that It works because you aren’t consuming any food calories at all so If death Is your thing go eat yourself some cotton balls. (I AM JOKING! DO NOT CONSUME COTTON BALLS BY DOING SO YOU ARE ASKING FOR DEATH! THIS HAS BEEN YOUR FRIENDLY WARNING!)

Obviously, Ingesting non-food substances can be dangerous, with followers of this fad risking choking or obstructing their Intestinal Tract. The obstruction, known as a bezoar, many need to be surgically removed. Most cotton balls for sale now are actually a mass of bleached, synthetic fibers, which aren’t easily digested. Aside from the dangerous medical problems, It can cause, exclusively eating cotton balls will cause malnutrition as they are devoid of nutrients. Therefore your body Is deprived of the fats, proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals It needs to function efficiently.

Lemonade Anyone?

As the title suggests this Is called the Lemonade “Diet”.It has been said that celebrity singers like Beyonce had tried this. The Lemonade “Diet” Is a 10-day drink plan. This “Diet” Is suggested to remove toxins from the body and help you detox from any sugar or junk food cravings. You don’t eat any food or consume alcohol during the 10-days.

People who do this will drink anywhere between 6-10 glasses of the lemonade mixture. You also add maple syrup and cayenne pepper. It’s similar to the master cleanse. This “Diet” claims that It will boost your energy and “nourish” your body.  I’ll be honest I did the master cleanse a year or so and I was a cranky pants. I can’t Imagine that you won’t feel hungry or sluggish.

My Opinion: If you are looking for a way to detox your body I say go for It. Just remember you aren’t consuming any foods while doing this. It’s straight liquid which Is also beneficial for your digestive tract. This Is good because like I mentioned above this liquid “Diet” helps clear you of toxins even In your gut.

Zen

The Zen “Diet” follows a strict way of eating.  With the Zen “Diet” you are NOT allowed to kill your food ( Vegans have a good Idea). Meals must also be a balance of Yin (passive, cold and dark) and Yang Ingredients (hot and active) It’s a real thing look It up. Food must be prepared by balancing all five flavors with all five colors…and using all five ways of cooking.

The Zen “Diet” doesn’t focus on processed food It focuses on real Organic, fresh and In-season produce only.

My Opinion: If you are the type that likes to try anything once I say go for It.

Final Thoughts

All of these “Diet” fad that I mentioned are quick fixes. Well… The cotton ball one Is outright dangerous that It will kill you! The baby food “Diet” If you are a mom to a baby and you feed your baby….Baby food chances are you tried the baby food a few times. With any “Diet” fads there are always risks to anything. My recommendation to would be the lemonade “Diet” It’s good for overall release of toxins and It resets your gut. With all the “Diets” I mentioned above these are quick fixes. You will gain the weight you lost and then some even with the lemonade “Diet”. I do a Detox once or twice a year and I reset my mind about food and I reset my body for optimal health. w

  1. Idk if you ever watched the Fox TV series Scream Queens, but in one episode the girls talk about how they ingest cotton balls with several dipping sauces because they think eating is disgusting. It was pretty wacky but the was the first instance where I have heard of this diet. Thanks for sharing! I love the diet content you keep putting out. It’s so interesting to read.

    1. I watched a few episodes I can’t recall if the show mentioned this cotton ball diet. I like to post things that people are afraid to talk about or things that are out of the ordinary in the “diet” world. I’m glad that you are enjoying my content.
