Contain Antioxidants

Potatoes are rich in compounds like flavonoids, carotenoids and phenolic acids (Antioxidants in potato).

These compounds act as antioxidants in the body by neutralizing potentially harmful molecules known as free radicals. When free radicals accumulate, they can increase the risk of chronic diseases like heart disease, diabetes, and cancer (Chronic inflammation and oxidative stress).

For example, a test-tube study found that the antioxidants present in potatoes may suppress the growth of liver and colon cancer cells (proliferation of human colon and liver cancer cells).

Studies have also found that colored potatoes like purple potatoes can have three to four times more antioxidants than white potatoes. This makes them potentially more effective at neutralizing free radicals (Antioxidant Contents and Antioxidant Activities of White and Colored Potatoesflavonoids and phenolic acids ).

However, most of this evidence is from test-tube studies. More human-based research is necessary before making any health recommendations.

Potatoes are a good source of antioxidants, which may reduce the risk of chronic diseases like heart disease, diabetes, and certain cancers. However, more human-based research is required before making any recommendations.


Potatoes contain a special type of starch known as resistant starch.

This starch is not broken down and fully absorbed by the body. Instead, it reaches the large intestine where it becomes a source of nutrients for the beneficial bacteria in your gut ( complex carbohydrates in the gut).

Research has linked resistant starch to many health benefits, including reducing insulin resistance, which, in turn, improves blood sugar control.

In an animal study, mice fed resistant starch showed reduced insulin resistance. This means their bodies were more efficient at removing excess sugar from the blood (starch can improve insulin sensitivity ).

A study of people with type 2 diabetes found consuming a meal with resistant starch helped better remove excess blood sugar after a meal (Blood Glucose Regulation).

In another study, ten people were fed 30 grams of resistant starch daily over a four-week period. Scientists found that resistant starch reduced insulin resistance by 33% (Insulin-sensitizing effects of dietary resistant starch).

Interestingly, you can also increase the resistant starch content of potatoes. To do this, store boiled potatoes in the fridge overnight and consume them cold ( cold storage of potatoes lowers postprandial glycaemic).

Potatoes contain resistant starch, which may help reduce insulin resistance. In turn, this can help improve blood sugar control.


May Improve Digestive Health

The resistant starch in potatoes may also improve digestive health.

When resistant starch reaches the large intestine, it becomes food for beneficial gut bacteria. These bacteria digest it and turn it into short-chain fatty acids (human colonic function).

Resistant starch from potatoes is mostly converted into the short-chain fatty acid butyrate — the preferred food source for gut bacteria (human microbiomes to dietary supplementationshort chain fatty acids).

Studies have shown that butyrate can reduce inflammation in the colon, strengthen the colon’s defenses and reduce the risk of colorectal cancer (Potential beneficial effects of butyrate).

Moreover, butyrate may aid patients with inflammatory bowel disorders, such as Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, and diverticulitis (inflammatory bowel diseases).

That said, most of the evidence surrounding butyrate is from test-tube or animal studies. More human-based research is necessary before making recommendations.

Resistant starch in potatoes is a source of nutrition for beneficial gut bacteria. They convert it to the short-chain fatty acid butyrate, which has been linked to reduced inflammation in the colon, improved colon defenses and a lower risk of colorectal cancer.


 Naturally Gluten-Free

The gluten-free “diet” is one of the most popular diets worldwide. It involves eliminating gluten, which is a family of proteins found in grains like spelt, wheat, barley, and rye.

Most people do not experience adverse symptoms from consuming gluten.

However, people with celiac disease or non-celiac gluten sensitivity can experience severe discomfort when consuming foods that contain gluten. Symptoms include sharp stomach pain, diarrhea, constipation, bloating and skin rashes, just to name a few (Celiac diseaseDiagnosis of gluten related disorders).

If you follow a gluten-free “diet”, then you should consider adding potatoes to your “diet”. They are naturally gluten-free, which means they won’t trigger uncomfortable symptoms.

While potatoes are gluten-free, many common potato recipes are not. Some potato dishes that contain gluten include certain au gratin recipes and potato bread.

If you have celiac disease or a non-celiac gluten sensitivity, be sure to read the full list of ingredients before eating a potato dish.

Potatoes are naturally gluten-free, which makes them an excellent food choice for people with celiac disease or a non-celiac gluten sensitivity.

Aside from being nutritious, potatoes are also incredibly filling.

In one study, 11 people were fed 38 common foods and asked to rate foods based on how filling they were. Potatoes received the highest fullness rating of them all.

Some evidence shows that a certain potato protein, known as potato proteinase inhibitor 2 (PI2), can curb appetite. This protein appears to enhance the release of cholecystokinin (CCK), a hormone that promotes feelings of fullness (Health-beneficial properties of potatos).

Studies have shown that potatoes are among the most filling foods. They may increase the levels of fullness hormones, such as cholecystokinin (CCK).


 Extremely Versatile

Not only are potatoes healthy, but they are also delicious and versatile.

Potatoes can be prepared in many ways, including boiled, baked and steamed. However, frying potatoes may dramatically increase their calorie content if you use a lot of oil.

Instead, try slicing potatoes and then roasting them in the oven with a light drizzle of extra virgin olive oil and a sprinkle of rosemary.

Make sure not to remove the skin of the potatoes, as most of the nutrients are located there. This will ensure you receive the maximum amount of nutrients from the potato.

Potatoes are delicious, versatile and easy to add to your “diet”. Try boiling, baking or steaming them and consuming them with the skin intact.

Potatoes are rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, which make them very healthy.

Studies have linked potatoes and their nutrients to a variety of impressive health benefits, including improved blood sugar control, reduced heart disease risk and higher immunity. They may also improve digestive health and combat signs of aging.

Is Cassava Flour Bad For You?

Cassava is a root vegetable widely consumed in developing countries. It provides some important nutrients and resistant starch, which may have health benefits.

On the other hand, cassava can have dangerous effects, especially if it is eaten raw and in large amounts.

This article will explore the unique properties of cassava to determine if it’s a healthy and safe food for you to include in your diet.


What Is Cassava?

Cassava is a nutty-flavored, starchy root vegetable or tuber. Native to South America, it’s a major source of calories and carbs for people in developing countries.

It is grown in tropical regions of the world because of its ability to withstand difficult growing conditions — in fact, it’s one of the most drought-tolerant crops (1).

In the United States, cassava is often called yuca and may also be referred to as manioc or Brazilian arrowroot.

The most commonly consumed part of cassava is the root, which is very versatile. It can be eaten whole, grated or ground into flour to make bread and crackers.

Additionally, cassava root is well known as the raw material that’s used to produce tapioca and garri, a product similar to tapioca.

Individuals with food allergies often benefit from using cassava root in cooking and baking because it is gluten-free, grain-free and nut-free.

One important note is that cassava root must be cooked before it is eaten. Raw cassava can be poisonous, which will be discussed in a later chapter.

Cassava is a versatile root vegetable that is consumed in several parts of the world. It must be cooked before it is eaten.


Contains a Few Key Nutrients

A 3.5-ounce (100-gram) serving of boiled cassava root contains 112 calories. 98% of these are from carbs and the rest are from a small amount of protein and fat.

This serving also provides fiber, as well as a few vitamins and minerals.

The following nutrients are found in 3.5 ounces (100 grams) of boiled cassava:

  • Calories: 112
  • Carbs: 27 grams
  • Fiber: 1 gram
  • Thiamine: 20% of the RDI
  • Phosphorus: 5% of the RDI
  • Calcium: 2% of the RDI

Boiled cassava root also contains small amounts of iron, vitamin C and niacin.

Overall, the nutrition profile of cassava is unremarkable. While it does provide some vitamins and minerals, the amounts are minimal.

There are many other root vegetables you can eat that will provide significantly more nutrients — beets and sweet potatoes, to name two.

Cassava is a significant source of carbs and also provides a small amount of fiber, vitamins, and minerals.

This is because many of the vitamins and minerals are destroyed by processing, as well as most of the fiber and resistant starch.

Therefore, the more popular, processed forms of cassava — such as tapioca and garri — have very limited nutritional value.

For example, 1 ounce (28 grams) of tapioca pearls provides nothing but calories and a small amount of a few minerals.

Boiling cassava root is one cooking method that has been shown to retain most nutrients, with the exception of vitamin C, which is sensitive to heat and easily leaches into the water.

While cassava contains several nutrients, processing methods significantly lower its nutritional value by destroying vitamins and minerals.


It’s High in Calories

Cassava contains 112 calories per 3.5-ounce (100-gram) serving, which is quite high compared to other root vegetables (Cassava for Use as a Staple Food).

For example, the same serving of sweet potatoes provides 76 calories, and the same amount of beets provides only 44.

This is what makes cassava such an important crop for developing countries since it is a significant source of calories (Nutritional Value of Cassava).

However, its high-calorie count may do more harm than good for the general population.

Consuming high-calorie foods on a regular basis is associated with weight gain and obesity, so consume cassava in moderation and in reasonable portions (Dietary energy density). An appropriate serving size is about 1/3–1/2 cup (73–113 grams).

Cassava contains a significant number of calories, so consume it in moderation and in appropriate portion sizes.

High in Resistant Starch

Cassava is high in resistant starch, a type of starch that bypasses digestion and has properties similar to soluble fiber.

Consuming foods that are high in resistant starch may have several benefits for overall health.

Resistant starch has also been studied for its ability to contribute to better metabolic health and reduce the risk of obesity and type 2 diabetes.

This is due to its potential to improve blood sugar control, in addition to its role in promoting fullness and reducing appetite (Acute ingestion of resistant starchimproving human healthmetabolic effects and potential health benefitsStarches, Sugars and Obesity).

The benefits of resistant starch are promising, but it is important to note that many processing methods may lower cassava’s resistant starch content.

Products made from cassava, such as flour, tend to be lower in resistant starch than cassava root that has been cooked and then cooled in its whole form (The resistant starchResistant starch in cassava products).

Cassava in its whole form is high in resistant starch, which is known for its role in preventing certain metabolic conditions and promoting gut health.

Contains Antinutrients

One of cassava’s major downfalls is its content of antinutrients.

Antinutrients are plant compounds that may interfere with digestion and inhibit the absorption of vitamins and minerals in the body.

These aren’t a concern for most healthy people, but their effects are important to keep in mind.

They are more likely to impact populations at risk of malnutrition. Interestingly, this includes populations that rely on cassava as a staple food.


Here are the most important antinutrients found in cassava:

The effects of antinutrients are more prominent when they are consumed frequently and as part of a nutritionally inadequate diet.

As long as you only consume cassava on occasion, the antinutrients shouldn’t be a major cause for concern.

In fact, under some circumstances, antinutrients such as tannins and saponins may actually have beneficial health effects (ProanthocyanidinsSaponins as cytotoxic agentsEffects of Saponins on Lipid Metabolism).

The antinutrients in cassava may interfere with the absorption of some vitamins and minerals and may cause digestive distress. This is mainly a concern for populations that rely on cassava as a staple food.


May Have Dangerous Effects in Some Circumstances

Cassava may be dangerous if consumed raw, in large amounts or when it is prepared improperly.

This is because raw cassava contains chemicals called cyanogenic glycosides, which can release cyanide in the body when consumed.

When eaten frequently, these increase the risk of cyanide poisoning, which may impair thyroid and nerve function. It is associated with paralysis and organ damage and can be fatal (The toxic effects of cassava).

Those who have an overall poor nutrition status and low protein intake are more likely to experience these effects since protein helps rid the body of cyanide (Chronic poisoning by hydrogen cyanide).

This is why cyanide poisoning from cassava is a greater concern for those who live in developing countries. Many people in these countries suffer from protein deficiencies and depend on cassava as a major source of calories (Chronic poisoning by hydrogen cyanide in cassava).

What’s more, in some areas of the world, cassava has been shown to absorb harmful chemicals from the soil, such as arsenic and cadmium. This may increase the risk of cancer in those who depend on cassava as a staple food (Cancer and non-cancer health risk from eating cassava).

Frequent consumption of cassava is associated with cyanide poisoning, especially if it is consumed raw and prepared improperly.


How to Make Cassava Safer for Consumption

Cassava is generally safe when it is prepared properly and eaten occasionally in moderate amounts. A reasonable serving size is about 1/3–1/2 cup.

  • Peel it: The peel of cassava root contains most of the cyanide-producing compounds.
  • Soak it: Soaking cassava by submerging it in water for 48–60 hours before it is cooked and eaten may reduce the amount of harmful chemicals it contains.
  • Cook it: Since the harmful chemicals are found in raw cassava, it’s essential to cook it thoroughly — by boiling, roasting or baking, for example.

There are many ways you can incorporate cassava into your diet.

You can prepare several snacks and dishes with the root on its own. It is commonly sliced and then baked or roasted, similar to the way you would prepare a potato.

Additionally, cassava root can be mashed or mixed in with stir-fries, omelets, and soups. It’s also sometimes ground into flour and used in bread and crackers.

You can also enjoy it in the form of tapioca, which is a starch extracted from the cassava root through a process of washing and pulping.

Tapioca is commonly used as a thickener for puddings, pies, and soups.

Cassava is typically used in the same way that you would use potatoes and makes an excellent addition to just about any dish. It can also be ground into flour or enjoyed in the form of tapioca.

Cassava contains some healthful properties, but its negative effects appear to outweigh the benefits.

Not only is it high in calories and antinutrients — it can cause cyanide poisoning when prepared improperly or consumed in large amounts.

While this is mostly a concern for those who rely on cassava as a staple food, it is still important to keep in mind.

Additionally, cassava-based products like tapioca have been processed enough to remove toxic chemicals and are not dangerous to consume.

Overall, cassava is not a food that needs to be a regular part of your diet. If you do eat it, prepare it properly and eat it in reasonable portions.

Why Chocolate IS Popular On Valentine’s Day

Since Valentine’s Day is only 5 days away I thought why not throw in a  Valentine’s post. Today I talk about and discuss why chocolates are so much more popular on February 14th. If you missed yesterday’s post you can click here to learn all about Gluten Sensitivity.


February 14 will soon be upon us, and while many people will choose cards, flowers, or jewelry as gifts to give those they love for Valentine’s Day, chocolates are a perennially popular way to show someone you think they’re special. Heart-shaped boxes filled with chocolates are a relatively recent tradition, but the bond between chocolate and love actually goes back thousands of years.

Hold on to your sweet tooth as you read on to find out exactly how and why we give each other chocolate on Valentine’s Day.


It Starts With An Ancient Tradition

The Mayans very clearly appreciated the magic of chocolate as they drank it, first roasting cacao beans and then grinding them into a paste that was mixed with chiles, cornmeal, and water. In addition to using chocolate in religious ceremonies and savoring it at the end of feasts, they were the first culture to make the connection between chocolate and love. Some Mayan wedding ceremonies included a ritual where the bride and groom ceremonially sipped chocolate.

So there you have it, the first big display of chocolate and love coming together.

The Aztecs also prized chocolate and traded with their Mayan neighbors to obtain it in vast quantities. Sixteenth-century ruler Montezuma II allegedly consumed chocolate in vast quantities in order to stoke his libido. Spanish explorers were quick to realize the appeal of chocolate though, and mixed cacao paste with cinnamon and cane sugar to cut the bitterness.


From Britain With Love

Although chocolate became popular throughout Western Europe after its introduction by Spanish explorers in the 16th century, it was so expensive that it was mostly consumed by the wealthy. It wasn’t until the mid-19th century that British company J.S. Fry & Sons created the first-ever chocolate bar by combining cacao powder and sugar with cacao butter. Within a few years, filled chocolates became wildly popular, with Fry & Sons competitor Cadbury introducing the first box of chocolates—dubbed the “Fancy Box”—in England in 1861.

Just seven years later, the company produced its first heart-shaped box of fruit, ganache, and nut-filled chocolates in time for Valentine’s Day gifting. Because the decorative boxes could be used to store love letters and other mementos long after the chocolates inside had been eaten, they proved to be thoughtful as well as toothsome gifts.

Meanwhile, chocolatier Russell Stover began marketing their distinctive line of heart-shaped boxes—which to this day include the petite Red Foil Heart” and the lace-covered “Secret Lace Heart”—across the Midwest in the 1920s before expanding to be the number-one boxed-chocolate brand in the United States.

Wondering what to get your sweetheart this February 14? Go ahead and say you love them with chocolate, because that’s what everyone else is doing. If history is any predictor, chocolate will outshine cards and flowers this V-Day, as it’s always done.

According to data gathered by Nielsen, Valentine’s Day candy generated $695 million in sales in 2017—and chocolate played a major role. In fact, Americans spent $11 billion on chocolate throughout the year.

So, when it comes time to show the ones who make you feel all warm and fuzzy how much they mean to you, there’s a good chance you’ll be saying it with some chocolate. And if anything, you’re just honoring an age-old, very sweet tradition.

What Causes Gluten Sensitivity

Welcome if you’re new and welcome back if you’ve been with me for a while. In yesterdays post I talked about how certain allergies environmental and food could cause for your weight gain. In that post, I mentioned Gluten Sensitivity. I’m sure I missed some key facts sorry.And finally, I want to say that this is for Gluten Sensitivity and not Celiac Disease. And like always if you believe you may have Celiac please go to your doctors for proper testing. And if you think you may have sensitivity I don’t believe there is a blood test I got put in the direction of a food intolerance test and gluten came up high (3) on that test.

It’s not clear at all whether gluten really causes gluten sensitivity

When talking about the health condition that many clinicians now call “non-celiac gluten sensitivity,” it’s easy to focus strictly on the gluten protein. After all, it’s gluten that leads to intestinal damage in celiac disease, and so it didn’t seem like a major stretch, when this new condition was first described, to assume gluten was to blame for symptoms here, as well.

In addition, the gluten-free “diet” is well-known largely because people can remember that gluten is the problematic protein in celiac disease. Therefore, if someone gets relief from symptoms by following the gluten-free “diet”, but that person does not have celiac disease, it’s still fairly logical to assume that the person is reacting to gluten.

But what if the culprit causing the symptoms of “gluten sensitivity” isn’t gluten? What if, instead, it’s some other compound—or even multiple compounds—found in the gluten-containing grains wheat, barley, and rye, and possibly even in other foods, too?

This is an idea that’s getting some attention. Possible problematic compounds found in those grains include fructans (a complex carbohydrate that can cause symptoms in people with irritable bowel syndrome) and amylase trypsin inhibitors (which are proteins), in addition to the protein gluten.

Here’s what the research shows on all of the three-grain components, and how they might be related to non-celiac gluten sensitivity.


Gluten Is the Primary Suspect

This is the grain component on which most people focus. Gluten is a protein that grain plants use to store nutrients for the next generation of plants. It’s found in the seeds of grain plants — the part of the plant we think of, and use, like food.

The initial research on non-celiac gluten sensitivity fingered gluten as the problem in the newly described condition. That study said gluten made some people’s intestines leaky and inflamed without causing celiac disease. The researchers concluded these people were reacting to gluten in the foods they ate.

Since that initial study, there have been several more studies that used pure wheat gluten to try and induce symptoms in people who believed they were gluten-sensitive. These have had mixed results.

One study, for example, removed all gluten grain-based foods from 37 subjects’ diets, and then fed them with pure wheat gluten (the subjects didn’t know when they were eating gluten and when they were eating a placebo). The people in the study didn’t experience digestive symptoms while eating pure gluten, but some of them did get depression.

Another study used the same technique to “challenge” people who said they were gluten-sensitive with gluten and found that some of them did react to pure gluten. In that study, 101 people said their digestive symptoms improved when following a gluten-free diet, and 14% of those got worse when they unknowingly ingested gluten as part of the study.

The bottom line: Some people who say they’re sensitive to gluten grains do seem to be reacting to gluten, but many others don’t react when fed pure gluten unknowingly. More research on this is needed.


FODMAPs Is a Problem in IBS

It’s possible that the problem with wheat is its fructans. That’s what one of the recent studies on gluten sensitivity—the one with the 37 people who didn’t get digestive symptoms from pure gluten—concluded.

Fructans are a complex carbohydrate that ferments in your large intestine, potentially causing gas, bloating, cramping, pain, diarrhea, and constipation. This particular study fingered FODMAPs (fermentable, oligo-, di-, monosaccharides and polyols), which are sugars found in wheat grains and multiple other foods when the people in the study did not see their intestinal symptoms worsen with pure gluten.

 FODMAPs seem to cause digestive symptoms in many people with irritable bowel syndrome, and a low-FODMAP diet is proven to reduce symptoms in nearly three-quarters of those with IBS. But it’s far from clear whether the problem in “gluten sensitivity” is really the FODMAPs, and whether the solution is a low-FODMAP diet, rather than a gluten-free diet. Again, more research is needed.

Amylase Trypsin Inhibitors Are Drivers of Inflammation

There’s a third component of modern gluten grains that scientists have identified as a potential problem: amylase trypsin inhibitors. These proteins are actually natural pesticides — they’re made by the plant to protect itself from insects.

Amylase trypsin inhibitors in gluten grains actually make it difficult or impossible for bugs to digest the starches in the grain kernel. Modern wheat has been bred to have lots more of these proteins.

The problem is, amylase trypsin inhibitors in wheat (and possibly other gluten grains) seem to cause inflammation in some people, both in their intestines and elsewhere in their bodies. Researchers studying these proteins speculate that they could play a role in celiac disease, in non-celiac gluten sensitivity, and possibly in other conditions that are driven by inflammation.

 Amylase trypsin inhibitors may contribute to or even cause what people call non-celiac gluten sensitivity. However, right now they’re the least studied of these three possible causes.


Gluten Sensitivity And Intolerances Causes Are Unclear

It’s nowhere near clear right now what might cause the condition we’re calling “non-celiac gluten sensitivity” or (NCGS).  It could wind up being gluten, FODMAPs, amylase trypsin inhibitors, some combination of the three, or something else entirely.

If gluten isn’t to blame but something else in gluten grains is, then people who have the condition might need to follow a “diet” free of all components of wheat, barley, and rye … not just gluten.

Research over the next several years should tell us more about what causes non-celiac gluten sensitivity and how many people have it. That, in turn, should help us figure out how to diagnose and treat it.

Allergies And Weight Gain

Welcome if you’re new and welcome back if you’ve been with me for a while. I am here to tell you that it is possible if you suffer from some common allergies. Today I talk about my top 3 Allergies that might cause you or someone you know weight gain.

 DISCLAIMER: If you think you may have food allergies please talk to your doctor and get an allergy test done. I know some doctors do *food allergy testing and some will give you a referral to an allergist.

 Gluten Sensitivity IS NOT AN ALLERGY!

 Gluten sensitivity or intolerance also is known as (NCGS) (Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity) is a condition that causes a person to react after ingesting gluten, a protein found in wheat, barley, and rye. Symptoms vary widely and can include gastrointestinal problems, joint pain, fatigue and depression. The same symptoms are associated with celiac disease, so it’s important to get the correct diagnosis.

I have a few Gluten Free related posts coming really soon this month so make sure to keep an eye out because I will be discussing the difference between celiac and non-celiac a bit deeper.

I also have a few posts coming up for all of my followers that are or may know someone that suffers from food allergies or sensitivities I will be giving tips, tricks, and recipes.


Type B Food Allergies

Craving and overeating particular foods may be the sign of a Type B food allergy. While a Type A food allergy will cause an immediate, often dangerous, physiological reaction, such as the anaphylactic response often generated by allergen exposure in people with shellfish ( I am deadly allergic to shellfish) I have to make sure I stay away from it at all costs. or peanut allergies, Type B food sensitivities can cause more long-term, delayed reactions, including weight gain, fatigue, and aching joints. Delayed food allergies may not cause an inflammatory response until three days after ingestion, and continuing to eat the triggering food can cause cumulative effects. Current food allergy testing techniques can help identify many Type B food allergies, as can eliminating foods one by one from the diet for an extended period of time. 


Hay Fever

Common hay fever, pollen, dust, and pet dander allergies can make you fat—not because the allergies themselves cause weight gain but rather due to the over-the-counter and prescription antihistamines commonly used to treat the itchy red eyes and runny noses that characterize these allergies. Chronic use of antihistamines increase the appetite and particularly create cravings for carbohydrates. Antihistamines are so effective at increasing hunger that they are prescribed to anorexic patients as an appetite stimulant. If ongoing daily allergies require you to engage in chronic antihistamine treatment, consult your doctor regarding potential alternative treatments with lower weight-gain effects.


Gluten Sensitivity

Gluten sensitivity, or grain allergy, in its most severe form comprises celiac disease, which creates serious health impacts, including unintended weight loss, and requires lifelong abstention from wheat, rye and barley products. However, only a small percentage of people with gluten sensitivity demonstrate this classic clinical presentation, many more individuals with gluten sensitivity have episodic stomach cramping, bloating and weight gain (that’s me). Fatigue and joint pain are also related to gluten sensitivity and can lead to additional weight gain by discouraging vigorous physical activity.

Being vegan doesn’t mean you have to give up burgers. This app has tons of recipes for creative burger options, like eggplant and pesto burgers. Each recipe tells you about the burger, the ingredients you’ll need, and how to make it. Search the catalog to find your favorites and bookmark them. You can also browse offline to shop for ingredients with or without mobile internet.


These are just some of the apps I used (when I had android) and the apps that I use now (iPhone). There are so MANY more vegan/vegetarian apps that are out there. Here is a list of more vegan iPhone apps that didn’t make my cut but deserve some love.


1.) Vegow-The Weekly Plant diet: This apps helps you track your nutrients for anyone who doesn’t eat enough vegetables. This app claims that it’s good for Vegan, Vegetarian, Keto, and Paleo followers.

2.) 21-Day Vegan Kickstart: This app is good for anyone who is interested in trying to go vegan for the month or just looking for some fun and healthy vegan recipes.

3.) Food Monster: This app will give you TONS and I MEAN TONS of vegan recipes. There is a section called Cheesy Meals and for that section, there are 135 recipes. Some sections have less and some have more. Just be careful if you have food allergies and or sensitivities because at least for me it was hard to alter the recipes.

4.) Meetup: Meetup is a social networking “type” app. With Meetup, you can not only see the fun cool stuff that is going on in your area you can also find local vegans in your area how cool is that?

Like many ( I am no exception) with any lifestyle change we get excited about starting, I got complacent after a while. I got out of the habit of drinking Keto//os, and I started eating badly again! (Sorry Body)!

Keto Max Results – Committed to Ketones!

Round #2 with Keto//os It Was Now Or Never!

I joined beachbody on demand and I started doing  HIIT training – light running, yoga, and light weights) and I do that 2x per week and take Saturday and Sunday off.

I also ate a strict ketogenic diet (vegetarian) the first couple of weeks getting back on the ketones which helped a lot to get my body burning fat for fuel. But after a while, I just didn’t feel like following a strict Keto diet was for me, so I added back some carbs on my workout days and non-workout days.

Now I do a lot of Intermittent Fasting, and Intuitive Eating and I eat good “most of the time.”

  • Drink 1-2 servings of Keto OS per day and a new diet will follow naturally – because you won’t be as hungry and your carb and sugar cravings will be squashed!
  • Use the MCT or Keto Kreme in your coffee in the mornings, and a Keto Max in the afternoon(this is my current schedule)

Will you burn more fat if you eat a low carb or Keto diet?  YES, of course! At least go low carb if you’re looking for fat loss!

As you can tell by the title today I bring you a vegan comfort foodstyle post. I made some of these recipes and let me tell you they are delicious. I do have to be honest that I can’t say that the pickiest eater will enjoy these recipes because that is not always the case. What I can tell you is that you can alter these recipes pretty much for your dietary needs. You need gluten- free you can make it gluten-free. Left Coast Performance started with the goal of bringing affordable, high-quality MCT oil to the market. Since then, they have grown to sell other supplements, such as bone broth and ketone powder. They aim to use just a handful of ingredients in each of their products for maximum nutritional benefit. Their website is impressive, featuring an educational blog and podcasts. A nice benefit with Bulletproof Coffee InstaMix Creamer is it is in powder form and does not require blending.

Flavors: unflavored, Form: pre-blended powder

Laird Superfood is named after Laird Hamilton, a self-proclaimed “surfer, fitness guru and coffee connoisseur.” He founded the company with the mission of finding a keto coffee creamer alternative to butter.
