I am a Starbucks lover. There was a point in time where I would go to Starbucks every day sometimes twice a day for my coffee. Then Instead of leaving the house twice a day to get coffee In the mornings (Afternoon because I sleep through mornings), I would just get coffee for the next few days. Luckily for me, I didn’t have to worry about the coffee going bad or stale because I would just get It black with no ice. I am an avid coffee drinker a coffee connoisseur I would say.
Over the last couple of years, adult life set in and i had to cut back on Starbucks. Recently I’ve started to go back to Starbucks. When I first started going back I would get my usual Trenta Cold Brew Black with light Ice. But this time something else caught my eye. The Cloud Macchiato. Mmm, I thought. I was telling my sister maybe I’ll try or maybe I’ll try it next time I come. Sometimes what I do Is when I go to Starbucks and I’m about to place my order whatever comes out of my mouth Is what I order. Usually a Cold Brew or an Iced Coffee.
The Cloud Macchiato comes in two flavors: cinnamon and caramel. I tried the latter to find out if it’s a worthy addition to the Starbucks repertoire. My verdict? This one is a home run. It Is such a hit with me that I have made a special (out of the way) trip to Starbucks because I wanted it that bad. I don’t know where you live but around me, there is a Starbucks in my local grocery store which means I am a lucky girl because I can get myself a Cloud Macchiato.
Here’s how clouds fit into this drink: A classic macchiato (a shot of espresso combined with a dash of steamed milk) is topped with Starbucks’ cold foam (non-fat milk that has been frothed cold instead of hot to give it that extra-creamy texture).
This light, creamy topping (which is drizzled with caramel syrup) is the star of this drink. It makes the bitter espresso much easier to drink (especially for coffee wimps like me, who rarely drink espresso or even black coffee). I like the subtle caramel flavor, too, which isn’t overbearing with its sweetness. The only downside? Once the cold foam melts away (and it will eventually, even in this icy weather), the drink does start to taste like a simple caramel iced coffee.
Starbucks boasts that the Cloud Macchiato is silky and exhilarating, and I can honestly say that the drink lives up to that description. And while some new Starbucks drinks focus solely on attention-grabbing flavor, this one actually lets you taste the coffee. So yes, the Cloud Macchiato puts a fun new twist on Starbucks’ core coffee identity.
I would recommend trying the cloud macchiato at least once. Because It Is made with Egg Whites and (I don’t think It has sugar?) you’ll taste the bitterness from the espresso. In my opinion, I don’t mind the bitter taste because I do like my coffee black. But if bitterness isn’t your thing or the taste of espresso you can always ask for extra sweetener or extra caramel. I don’t know how long the cloud macchiato will stick around so you better get it for yourself before it poofs into a cloud.
