Non-Dairy Pumpkin Spice Creamer Is the Secret to a Guilt-Free PSL

Today I get back to my roots and talk about something that is fall related. Obviously, the only thing that exists in the fall is all things pumpkin. This pumpkin flavored item is so versatile that you can use it in your pumpkin baked goods. I’m sure from the title you know that I am talking about coffee creamer. Like I said this creamer can be used in many ways. I even use it in my pumpkin mousse that I make.
I gave a short review for Califia barista blend line. It’s not new but they just became available in my area.

Let’s face it. For all of us who want to avoid or cut back on their dairy intake in different ways, Califia offers so many options. Everything from coffee, coffee creamer, “milk”, and probiotic drinks.

Barista Blend or (BB) for short (small review) The Barista Blend is not your average almond milk. What makes your average almond milk terrible is the fact that almonds aren’t the best nut. They’re fine. They’re good to snack on, sure, but they have minimal fat, a chalky texture, and a cardboard flavor. They’re not something you really want to drink. And when you do, almond milk separates in coffee, is impossible to steam (due to the very watery body), and lacks the backbone to stand up to the flavor of your beans. It ends up diluting your coffee. Which, when you’re five minutes out of bed, is not a good look.
BB addresses and champions all of these issues. It’s essentially Califia’s regular almond milk hyped up on a little thing called “thickeners.” The almond flavor is full and concentrated. It holds its consistency. And you can steam it. Successfully. Generally, soy and hemp are better non-dairy alternatives, if you’re looking for that creamy, frothy body that cappuccinos or cortados are known for. BB though? Even better. The adjustment of the ratio of binding agents in Califia’s regular almond milk, paired with the introduction of calcium carbonate (a healthy, naturally-occurring chemical compound) gives Barista Blend a structure that other almond milks lack.

And before you ask, yes, there’s sugar in here. And yes, BB is a little more expensive than regular almond milk (16 cents an ounce, compared to 13 cents an ounce, on average). But guess what. It’s absolutely worth the extra change. The sugar is low-key; it’s whispering sweet nothings into your ear. It feels personal. It feels professional. The name Barista Blendfits.

Fall weather is practically synonymous with Pumpkin Spice Lattes, but the caffeinated indulgence can totally undo your summer body if you sip too often. Get this: A Grande PSL from Starbucks packs in a walloping 380 calories, 14 grams of fat, and 50 grams of sugar, and if you order one three times a week, you could add over four pounds to your frame in just three months! Fortunately, there is a healthier way to get your fall fix because Califia Farms—the makers of your go-to almond milk—just debuted a dairy-free pumpkin spice half-and-half.

One two-tablespoon serving of Pumpkin Spice Better Half boasts just 15 calories, 1 gram of fat (0.5 grams of saturated fat), 25 milligrams of sodium, 0 grams of carbs, and 0 grams of protein.

It’s made with almond milk, real pumpkin puree, and warm nutmeg and cinnamon. Coconut cream lends the blend its ultra-velvety texture and brain-boosting fats while monk fruit subtly sweetens it without overwhelming your palate.

Unlike most sugar-free beverages, this creamer doesn’t contain any artificial flavors or preservatives. Just take a look at how it compares to Coffee-Mate’s Sugar-Free Pumpkin Spice creamer.

Coffee-Mate’s Sugar-Free Pumpkin Spice creamer.

PER 2 TBSP: 30 calories, 2 g fat (0 g saturated fat), 20 mg sodium, 2 g carbs (0 g sugar, 0 g fiber), 0 g protein

Not only does Coffee-Mate’s pick boast double the calories than Califia’s, but it’s also made with partially hydrogenated oils, kidney-harming phosphates, artificial flavors, and artificial sweeteners such as sucralose and acesulfame potassium. Wake up to a better cup of Joe by brewing your own at home and splashing in Califia Farms Pumpkin Spice Better Half for a touch of flavor without any of the sketchy additives found in most commercial brands. And if you’re feeling creative in the kitchen, dunk in a cinnamon stick and a drop of vanilla extract for a horchata-esque pick-me-up.

Pictured here is some of my most flavored Califia Pumpkin combo for the fall. I even like to slightly heat the cold brew coffee (I know but trust me it tastes great)!  I found these babies at my local shop rite. The pumpkin cold brew coffee is sweet but not overpowering it’s a bit bitter which I don’t totally mind because I like to drink black coffee.

And as for the Creamer, it tastes like pumpkin. It’s a bit hard to blend into the coffee because it’s thick.
