SkinnyPop’s limited-edition holiday flavors, Gingerbread Cookieand White Chocolate Peppermint are here and they have my undivided attention. The new additions clock in at 70 calories per cup (140 calories per serving) which is only 30 more calories than their original popcorn.

A Closer Look at Nutrition and Ingredient Information

PER SERVING (2 CUPS): 140 calories, 7 g fat (0.5 g saturated fat), 15-20 mg sodium, 18 g carbs (2 g fiber, 9 g sugar), 1 g protein

I love that SkinnyPop is always made with only a few simple ingredients like sunflower oil and popcorn (A treat for anyone who is looking to cut calories but not flavor), but they’re also pretty sweet (Again this is a treat for anyone who has a sweet tooth but doesn’t want to spend all their extra calories on candy). As is the case with almost every holiday treat out there (calorie and sugar overload), the Gingerbread Cookie and White Chocolate Peppermint don’t exactly have a low sugar count, but it doesn’t hit above 10 grams per serving, which is a win in my book. The 9 grams of added sugars is only 18 percent of the USDA-recommended intake of added sugars for the day. That’s why I suggest sticking to the recommended serving size instead of overeating straight from the bag (or if you are having yourself a cheat day and you want to treat yourself who am I to stop you from eating the whole bag? )—though tempting while gearing up to watch Hallmark Christmas movies (my sister started watching Hallmark Christmas movies back in July). Like all SkinnyPop Popcorn, the new kettle corn flavors are gluten-free, non-GMO, and free of artificial ingredients.

How SkinnyPop’s Holiday Flavors Stack Up to BOOMCHICKAPOP

Another staple in the pre-popped popcorn section is Angie’s BOOMCHICKAPOP, which has its own line of holiday flavored popcorn. I wanted to compare them to SkinnyPop’s new additions. BOOMCHICKAPOP’s seasonal flavors such as Pumpkin Spice, Cinnamon Roll, Hot Cocoa, White Chocolate & Peppermint and Frosted Sugar Cookie are made with all natural ingredients, but they clock in at 110 calories per cup, which is nearly double SkinnyPops. BoomChickaPop’s variety also has at least one to two grams more sugar. Both are still tasty picks (and better for you than reaching for processed Christmas cookies) but all those calories in BOOMCHICKAPOP will add up quickly, especially without portion control.

Where to Find Them

The two newbies added to the arsenal of SkinnyPop flavors have started gracing shelves at major retailers like Walgreens and at some select Targets since the beginning of October. Keep your eyes open as they continue to roll out across the country through the end of 2018.
