It’s no secret that no one really goes to their local fast food joint to load up on salad. When you’re in line at Wendy’s, you’re more likely gearing up to break your diet with something delicious (and super caloric), like a massive cheeseburger for lunch and the chain’s signature Frosty treat for dessert. This year though, the chain is trying to change how you think about them by releasing their Harvest Chicken Salad.
This is the first time Wendy’s has released a fall salad — and it’s loaded with all the best tastes of the season.
According to Wendy’s menu, the new Harvest Chicken Salad is made with fresh-cut lettuce, sliced grilled chicken, diced red and green apples, dried cranberries, feta cheese, brown sugar walnuts, and Applewood smoked bacon. As for the dressing, it’s a savory Apple Cider Vinaigrette from Marzetti Simply Dressed.
Free food is free food, but before you get too excited, you may want to dig deeper into its ingredients before digging into a bowl yourself.
One full serving of Wendy’s Harvest Chicken Salad has 1,300 mg of sodium (which is half of your daily recommended salt), plus half a day’s worth of fat (23 grams). The new salad addition contains “a little more than” two cups of fruit and vegetables according to the press release. However, while this salad may sound like an autumn lover’s dream, we recommend you skip this one and opt for making your own homemade version instead to cut back on sodium and fat. You could do better buying your own ingredients from the grocery store and prepping your lunch at home.
